Su Hart is a dynamic choir leader and singer-songwriter.  She has been performing and teaching internationally for 20 years, and is the lead singer with Afro-Celtic band Baka Beyond.  Singing has always been part of Su’s life, from singing to seals as a child, to busking for a living in her 20’s. Visits to the African rainforests with husband Martin Cradick to learn from Baka Pygmy singing, led to a greater understanding of the world of sound and sound making and the creation of their internationally touring band Baka Beyond.

The Baka are thought to have been the first humans to sing and have developed an interlocking singing style (Yelli) that enchants animals, heals illness and arguments and builds community. Their beautiful interlocking of sound and joyous accessible rhythm is fun and easy to learn.  Su has been initiated by the Baka women to share this singing as the basis of her unique workshop. Royalties go back to the Baka for projects in the forest through the charity Global Music Exchange.

Workshop with Su Hart

from Baka Beyond

We are planning to run another workshop with Su Hart in 2023. Join the mailing list to receive advance notice.

"Su’s workshop was such a joyous experience! Her enthusiasm for music, life and connection was so infectious that I soon forgot my inhibitions and sang effortlessly, from the heart. Her stories of living with the Baka people were both funny and fascinating, helping to put the songs into context. Her ability to bring some of the magic of the rain forest into a damp corner of Northern England was impressive. The whole day was delightful".
